Hi Thomas Bain,
Could you give us some more information about the issue? Is the PC shutting down when you see the black screen or it seems to be running all the time? If you suspect a monitor issue, I strongly recommend you to try with another monitor or using a TV (if possible).
If your PC is shutting down randomly, there may be a power supply issue and you need to seek assistance from a technician. A faulty power supply may cause a lot of trouble.
