I am sorry for any inconveniency caused by your My Passport drive. Unfortunately, the I/O error may indicate a serious issue. I would recommend you to test the drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Cable failures sometimes may cause similar problems.
Do you have important data stored on the drive? If you do, you may need to seek assistance from a Data Recovery Company or try to save the most important files with a recovery software. I leave you some suggestions in the link below:

If the same issue appear on another PC and with another cable and you have no important data on the drive, check if the drive is under warranty. If it is, contact the seller.
