System error - reboot and select proper boot device

hi,
my pc was working good but today when I switched it on , the following message was shown
reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key
no other options were shown
the screen was black with this report in white letters
I tried many methods to restart and reboot it but it shows the same report
what shall I do now ?
