Hello dan,
Do you have any operating system installed on the drive now? If you do, it most probably would not give you the option to install. Have you tried wiping out the drive prior to the installtion of the OS?
If the data is not that important to you, you could clear the drive and make a fresh install of the Win 8.
Make sure that the hard drive is being correctly seen by the BIOS. Restart the lappy and press the respective button to enter the BIOS menu. Then, go on the boot options and check if the HDD is recognized properly. If not, may be the HDD has issues and you may need to replace it with another one. If the hard drive that you try to install your OS on is new, make sure it works /spins correctly, the connection is Ok, etc/.
