Hello Napzkie624,

Frankly said, I have never heard of such “trend”. :) Usually, when you start to have issues with the videochip of the laptop's motherboard, the display is completely fine. You should just bring the laptop to a techinician to change the thermic paste and /in the worst scenario/ change the videochip itself.
If the hard drive and the RAM stick are working well, you could save them for another laptop, if you have one or if you have to change the motherboard, you could use them later.

Hope that I helped.

Hi again,

I'm not quite sure that the “hot air”-thing will fix the issue. If the laptop is still under warranty, I suggest that you bring it to a PC technician in order to do the test. Otherwise, it would void its warranty.
If there's a need of change of the thermic paste, it would be great. But the problem could be more severe than we think, so it's better that you don't alter the device.

Cheers.

Either your ram is not working or your monitor display has been damaged (internally)
