No boot

Hello,
My boss has a dell laptop, if you shut it off, it will not boot. They have had all virus scans run on it, what do think?

try testing the hardware by using a linux live cd distro. Slax is a good choice, download an iso from slax.org and burn it to a blank disc then pop it in the laptop and boot it up. if it does not boot up you know there is something wrong with the hardware but if it does boot its a software issue
