How do I get logged onto a Gateway laptop with Windows 8 when everything I do only goes to the sign in page for a prior owner who has forgotten the password?

Sounds you like you bought the computer from the back of a truck.

We are terribly sorry but CCM cannot help you to recover the lost password, because you can’t prove that you are the legitimate owner. . Everyday computers are stolen, although you may be honest, we do not wish to help potential criminals.

thanks but no thanks!..I bought this 5 years ago & my brother used it for a while & set it to boot up to his email accounts (2) but none of his passwords work.

You would need to reinstall the operating system from the Windows disks, that is boot from the cd's, there is no other way.
