It is not our intention to scare you ;), but if you are going to watch this movie, we must warn you: it is based on real events! But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First things first. REC (2007)

  • Directed by: Paco Plaza, Jaume Balagueró.
  • Country of origin: Spain
  • Starring: Manuela Velasco, Ferran Terraza, Jorge Yamam Serrano.
  • Running time: 1 hour 18 minutes

In our opinion, it is one of the best-found footage zombie horror films ever. The story goes like this: set in Barcelona, 'Rec' follows the night of a young reporter, Ángela Vidal, and her cameraman, Pablo, as they join a fire station with the purpose of portraying the firefighters' profession, their way of life and their risky situations. While they're recording, the firehouse receives a call about an old woman who's trapped in her apartment. But what seemed like a routine rescue operation turns into a real hell. As they arrive at the residence, the old woman becomes aggressive and attacks one of the officers, forcing the others to restrain her. A virus, similar to rabies, has infected the old woman and spreads through the bites. Trapped inside a building, the firefighters and the TV crew will have to face an unknown and lethal horror.

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

  • Directed by: Michael Chaves
  • Country of origin: United States
  • Starring: Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velásquez.
  • Running time: 1 hour 33 minutes

For those who are not familiar with this Hispanic American folklore myth, la llorona is the ghost of a woman who drowned her children and then, repentant, looks for them at night with her heart-rending cry. Scary as hell, isn't it? But wait because it gets worse. If you cross this myth with the dictatorship in Guatemala, you will get the chilliest movie. 'La llorona' plot goes like this: Alma and her children were killed in an armed conflict. Thirty years later, a criminal case is opened against Enrique Monteverde, a retired general who was in charge of the genocide. But the trial where he is convicted is declared null and void, and he is acquitted. That's when the spirit of la llorona is released to wander the world as a lost soul among the living. The ex-military man begins to hear her crying, and his life will gradually fall apart...

Poltergeist (1982)

  • Directed by: Tobe Hooper
  • Country of origin: United States
  • Starring: JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Beatrice Straight.
  • Running time: 1 hour 54 minutes

This movie is a horror classic that we could not leave out. The Friedman, a middle-class American family, moves into a new house in an idyllic neighborhood, but things get spooky when ghosts begin to communicate with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly threatening. When Carol-Ann, the little one of the family, goes missing the parents turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help. The story is simple, but the fear is deep because it is believed that something evil began to haunt the cast after real skeletons were used to film the swimming pool scene... There's an urban legend that links this with the premature deaths of two of its protagonists: Dominique Dunne, murdered by her partner, and Heather O'Rourke, who died at age 12 from an intestinal disease.
