I want copy my desktop without formatting my

Hello,

I'm Using windows XP os today morn my system got corrupt means unable to boot.
i want backup my desktop and my documents at same time im using tally accounting software also i have surrender the licensee before installation. how can i take backup. one of my friend told me there is option to take backup with doing format or repair and i can surrender the tally software also.like virtual xp which boot with cd.with the help virtual xp cd i can take backup is it true is any options like pl. advice its very urgent.
