I am a novice at working with Word 2007. I am trying to create footer with just the page number and document name. Unfortunately, when I create a footer it appears with merge codes in brackets. In looking at the page numbering options, I don't appear to have an option for just a page number without a merge code! Help!!! Can anyone help me solve this?

I must be dense, but I dont get your "merge codes" Are you saying instead of page number you see {page}? Have you seen this ?

Exactly right. This just started happening last week. I cannot get page numbers to appear in the headers on documents I create or documents I read. Instead { PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT } appears. When I cut and paste that code though, it pastes as a "1" from the first page.

This worked. Thanks. Now, how did it get checked?
