Lan network connection problem for Internet

Hello,

I am sharing the internet connection with my neighbour.I had run cat 5 cable from his modem till my home laptop almost 60mtrs.I connected from the modem through a straight cable.

Now when i connect my laptop with windows XP it is searching for the IP and finally shows limited or no connectivity.I had given obtain IP autoamtically in the settings.after that I changed the IP manually to the nearest IP of the modem even then the same connectivity problem.

But with the same cable if I connect my another laptop with windows Vista it is getting connected and working fine.

I checked the lan port of the laptop and even connected the same laptop to the modem with 2omtrs cable it is working OK.

So what can be the root cause for the problem, can any body help me to solve it out please.
