PC Sound Card into Laptop?

Ok, so big problem. I went to buy a sound card for my laptop, but accidentally got a desktop card, which, unfortunately, is un-returnable.

Does anyone know a way to install a card meant for a desktop into a laptop? It's a Gateway, not entirely sure of the model, but any help would really appreciated.

It can't be done. Didn't the laptop have a sound adapter built in? There are some USB sound card/adapters that can be used with laptops.
