Hello brao7,
Can you tell me, do you hear it when you are able to boot? This clicking sound that you hear might be caused by either fan or hard drive failing. My suggestion is, if your laptop is out of warranty, to open it and pull out the hard drive. After that, try to connect it to another PC via SATA-USB cable to see if it will make a clicking noise there too. If it does, then it has probably a mechanical problem and has to be replaced with another drive.
If it works smoothly, then the problem is related to the fan of your motherboard.
Hope this helps.
