Hello newsmyrna,
During the flashing of the red light, does your laptop work correctly? Have you tried to boot from it without the battery? If the flashing ceases when the battery is removed, it means that one or more of the cells in the battery is damaged. Probably you have to replace the existing battery with a new one.
You could also try to work with you lappy until the battery gets fully exhausted and then try to charge it up again.

Hello KY WD, thank you for answering my question and also....
Thanks for your suggestions - as a matter of fact, upon removing the battery, the red light did stop flashing and yes, laptop is working fine without battery - I guess I need to replace the battery soon -
one more question....when you say ....try and work with you lappy until battery is exhausted.....do you mean leaving the battery run down OUTSIDE the laptop?
