Need help recovering my FB account

Hello,
My CP was totaled! I had to get another one, I went thru the same company so I could easily transfer everything over. they said b/c my CP was dead it wouldn't crossover. I couldn't remember my password. I lost FB, my phone contacts and saved photo's. I googled "how to recover you FB account and actually found my FB account (photo) and changed my password, and user name and it said to wait 24 hr's and it would be fixed....WRONG, it's trying to make me make a new account. if I do that my friends will think my account is hacked and no one will accept my friend request. HELP
