Does the UK keyboard show up in Control panel, Region & language, Keyboards & languages, Change keyboards, in Installed services?
If the US one is still there either delete it or put the UK one at the top of the list.
Click Properties to check that it is the layout for the keyboard concerned [which means the layout for which the keyboard was made & the keys labelled]. If you bought your keyboard in the USA then you'd have to stick with US layout even if you went to Mars.
It would be a highly unusual problem for this to be unfixable by the methods described. If it is still not working correctly then please would you answer the following:
1 The character that you get with Shift 2 is what & the key is labelled what?
2 Where are you?
3 Where was the PC keyboard made for?
4 What, in full, is the keyboard at the top of the list at Control panel, Region & language, Keyboards & languages, Change keyboards, Installed services?
5 If you view properties for the keyboard in Installed services, does the layout match your keybaord. If not, describe the differences.
6 Are there any other keyboards at Control panel, Region & language, Keyboards & languages, Change keyboards, Installed services?
