How to recover an old Yahoo email account

Hello, i have an email account which i havent used for awhile,ive tried to sign into it but for got password, when ive tried to open new account using old email address im told there is already an account in that name exists so when i try to sign into yahoo mail im told that the email address is not reconised can anyone explain

When you created the account, did you register an alternate recovery email address or phone number to which you have access to receive an account key?

When is the last time you successfully accessed your account?
