Blinking cursor windows xp on a gateway mx6428

After turning the power on to computer its goes to a blank black page with a blinking cursor in top left corner how can I fix this

Try this

1. Remove the battery and cable.

2. Press and hold the power button for 58 seconds.

3. Replug and start.
