Trying to connect to internet

Hello,
with ethernet cable, hooked up to friends puter with my puter, installed linkys disk, and still cant connect to the internet. checked what was suppose to check, installed all it said to. it said everything was installed but still have no connection to the internet. Help, lost, confused and dont know what to do.

hi,

go to start menu and click on Run..

then type cmd and hit enter

type ipconfig and hit enter again, you will get the ip address assigned.

now you should be able to connect to he internet.
