Hi,
I've tried the disconnect power/battery/60 second thing and it used to work.
Now when I try nothing happens without the battery too, then the front edge cd and lightning lights come on, and when I push the power button it lights up and sounds like it's starting for a second.
Then nothing.
The on button light is on, and at the front edge the lightning light is off, and the cd and on light to its left is on.
Is this old girl salvageable?
Vic

I'll try that site, and you're the first responder.
If I'm unsuccessful, any suggestions for getting my Word documents off it?
Cheers,
Vic

The problem is that the laptop only flashes for a second including the brief sound of the fan, and then nothinh. So it doesn't get to the place where I can actually do anything. If take the memory cards out and the hard drive, would a repair shop be able to recover my Word documents?

Although this article I found might help your do it yourself, if you were motivated. It would be Method 2 in your case.
