I can't get sound in my headphones from desktop Headphone jack

Hello,
The sound in my desktop speakers is working but for some reason it cannot detect my headphones when I plug them in, I've tried resetting the computer, re-plugging the headphones in basically everything I can understand! And they were working perfectly fine the night before so why won't they work now!? Any help is appreciated!
