Facebook Hacked

My wife's Facebook account has been hacked - there is no phone number associated with the account just her personal email address. We keep going on to Facebook to request a code but it does not come through to her email address - we have changed the password on her email and checked carefully that the email address is correct and it is. We have also checked the junk folder and nothing is in there. There does not seem any other way to recover the account - can anyone help as the Facebook loop of "request code" seems like Dante's seventh circle of hell
