My computer is not working, tries to start.

Hello,
hp 5000 laptop. When I start the computer the windows xp icon comes on, runs for a while, then the screen goes to the blue microsoft screen. Nothing else happens. You hit f10 and a screen comes up with a page full of lines clike C: partition, drivers, etc,etc. Then the computer tries to start in safe mode and it goes to the blue screen then. What is going on here?
