Dear Sir,
If you had Vista originally Installed and if you want to install Xp,
You will have to change the SATA operation on the BIOS settings before you start the installation
Enter Bios, Press F2 when laptop starts,
Go to onboard devices,
Enable the flash cache module,
Then go to Sata Operation > change to ATA
Then save and exit
Thanks

Hi Chris,
I have a 8100 in the spare room that my grandson uses and although we have not had that problem on the Dell I have had the same problem before and the cure is to completly format the computer and reinstall your windows programme again. I'm 100% sure that will fix your problem and you will smile again.
Regards Robert
