Compaq been professiolly formatted

Hello,
i have pentium 4 computer provied by compaq and ex works.it has been professiolly formatted.and i have bought a disc to boot up xp professinal.but it keeps saying insert boot disc. i know nothing about computers,.can you tell me what to buy and how to boot it up.thank you.

please check the hard disk if is plugged

if power cable and ide cables are well connected
