Hello, My laptop has a power up problem but I want to access its HDD which is a Hitachi DK23CA-20 out of a Compaq Evo N160. The OS on this HD is a Linux OS: Ubuntu 8.04.
I bought a HDD case enclosure which suits both IDE and SATA but I when I have it all connected I cannot view its contents in my PC which runs Vista. The Device Manager has registered it but I do not have an icon through which to access it.
It was suggested to me to make sure I was running the HD as a slave so I made the necessary jumper settings as per instructions on the HD itself. Still no luck.
Is my problem to do with trying to view Linux on a Vista setup? Can anyone help me?

do a search for a linux/ubuntu distro live cd.
this is the operating system on a cd.
bung this in, and you should be able to access your drive to recover any files that you need.
