Hello,

I just "shot myself in the foot". I'm trying to delete some unused stuff to gain back some disk space on my Windows image, and I misunderstood how Windows Configuration Wizard was going to behave. In Add/Remove components, I left the checkmark next to Games because I wanted to remove it, and unchecked the boxes by IE7 and Utilities and a bunch of other things I wanted to keep, expecting that I'd get a dialog box about what to do next. BUT NO! When I clicked on Next, it wiped out my IE7, etc. and left the Games sitting there, without a Confirm or Back or Cancel or anything! And I can't see anything in the Wizard about how to back it out or undo.

I've been looking at Windows System Restore, and there is a restore point from Friday which would suit me just fine, if it will recover my IE7 settings. However, the writeup says it won't cause me to lose recent work, so I'm wondering if it will understand I want IE7 back. I know enough not to "try this, try that, try anything" and confuse things so nothing is recoverable. I don't want to reinstall IE7 yet and risk overlaying what is merely disconnected now.

Do you think that Windows System Restore will restore my IE7? Is it safe to try? Or is there anything else I should try first? Obviously, my instincts are faulty with respect to Windows, even though I've had plenty of experience on other operating systems. I appreciate any tips or savvy you may have!
Thanks! Bonnie

if you try system restore prior to your problem it may have them. but, anything you did after this restore will have to be done again. ie any programs you installed etc. it won't hurt your pc to do this.

just go back in there where you did the ticking and do the opposite. it will most likely ask for your cd but I think it may sort your problem

Do you think that will recover all my shortcuts and settings and all, or are they gone?

The system restore did recover my software back to before my mistake. I didn't have to reinstall anything. Thank you so much!
