My pc and External 500GB Hard Drive

Hello,
my pc has been booting up to the desktop (every time I have my external hard drive connected) and that's all it shows... right click won't work, task manager disappears if I try to browse for anything, if I unplug the external hard drive and restart my pc it loads fine, but the moment I reconnect it everything messes up.
I have tried a preboot Avast! antivirus scan of both my C and external hard drive

This is due to infection of trojans and malwares,
I will advise you to update your antivirus and use an anti-spyware to remove all threats on your computer
