CDROM lights buts nothing runs when loaded

Hello,

I just loaded XP PRO on a new machine (waiting for WIN7) and when you put in a cd the CD player will light up and then start blinking but nothing will happen. I have tried different cd's, checked in device manager (recognizes it) but when I go into explored and try to see what on a cd I just put in, I get nothing. I've tried changing it from master to slave it does not make any difference. It did work when I loaded the XP CD on the blank HDD. but after the OS was loaded it does not work. Any suggestions ????
