Instagram promotions: disabled, restricted, 2023

Has your Instagram account been restricted and you are no able to use Instagram promotions? Don't worry, in this article will go through a list of reasons why your Instagram promotions may be disabled.

Why are Instagram promotions disabled?

Instagram is an excellent way of promoting one's business or starting an online business; ads and promotions are key to success. There are many reasons why your Instagram promotions may no longer work.

  • Instagram made a mistake

If you don’t think there is any particular reason for getting your promotions disabled (meaning they follow the official guidelines available on the Instagram website). In that case, one possible solution is to Request Review. This option is now integrated with the app, but you can also fill out a form by visiting the Account Quality section and selecting your Business Manager account. This may take up to 24 hours and even more due to the pandemic.

  • Not a professional account

In order to make an Instagram promotion, you need to be connected to your business account. If you don’t have one, then you may need to switch your personal account to a professional account. Another reason can be that you are not a Page admin.

How to switch to a business account on Instagram?

  1. Go to Settings > Account and click Switch to Business Account
  2. Pick the type of business you run and click Done
  3. Confirm your choice and select Business Only.
  4. Add the info you want to share with your customers (phone number, email address).
  • Your ad doesn't follow the community guidelines

All the ads that run on Instagram or Facebook have to adhere to adhere to guidelines. Read Instagram community guidelines and check whether your ad (and your account) follow those. If not, make some changes, delete the content that is not suitable for this social media and try to run your ad once again.

  • Your Instagram account has been restricted

Instagram may restrict your account for the following reasons:

- Following or unfollowing a lot of profiles (there is a limit of 500 per day).

- Mass liking, commenting, and/or messaging.

- Posting too much.

- Sharing violated or harmful content. This seems to be the case, especially for medical content that may be considered too graphic or as fraudulent (namely when it comes to esthetic surgery).

- Using a third-party app - make sure to uninstall any third-party app, such as the Followers app – some users have encountered problems while using it.

Normally, a blocked account is recovered within 24-48 hours.

  • Young account

In order to do promotions, your account needs to be at least 30 days old. If your account is more recent than that, you will be unable to activate promotions.

  • Spending limits

Another thing to check is the payment method associated to your account, prepaid (automatic) or post-paid (manual - credit cards, PayPal)? If you've chosen the first one, we recommend that you check if there are any spending limits that you may have overpassed.

  • Copyright issues

Some music, pictures, or videos may be subject to copyright - you should check if there are any on your account. Use royalty-free music.

  • Associated Facebook account

If you have a Facebook account, you may want to do the following (note: this may make you lose your insights!):

  • Unlink the Facebook account from your (personal, if not professional) Instagram.
  • Log out from Instagram.
  • Log out from Facebook.
  • Log back to Instagram.
