                    Dear steve
When you get the blue screen when starting? does it mention something like fatal error or exception? if yes, it is possible that your system has been corrupted and is damaged, normally the best way to solve this is to use Windows Xp cd to attempt repair your system. you can also prefer to install a fresh copy of windows, but you are likely to loose most of the program you previously install

I was hoping so too, but unfortunately I can't get the recovery disk to load. Any ideas?
I have tried in safe mode and normal start-up, but as soon as the messgae comes up regarding the BROWSERUI.dll I either get a blue screen or black if safe mode is used????????????????

Have you try to boot directly on the recovery disk? change the boot sequence in your bios and start with your cd in the drive

Hi Sadgurl, sorry for not replying sooner, I was out for the night and only returned home a short while ago.
I have tried to boot up in safe mode with the recovery disk already in the driver, but nothing seems to happen.
I am not sure how you change the boot sequence in bios? perhaps you could explain?
Thanks again for the info, I will keep trying!
Steve :-)

    Hi again Sadgurl,
I seem to have managed to change the bios settings and now the lappy is booting up directly from the disk. I will confirm whether or not this resolves the issue.
Thanks again Steve

Thanks for your quick response.
I don't get a fatal error message, just the message saying Explorer.EXE - Unable to locate component then the info that the application failsed to start because BROWSEUI.dll was not found...
I think I will load the product recovery CD that came with the original software. As yet I don't have any personal info on the system, I was planning to just use the laptop for playing poker and catching up on facebook. All my important info is on my PC thank goodness!! Steve
