Hello,
A few weeks ago, the optical drive of my HP 6449us stopped recognizing dvds. It works fine when I put in a cd with document files or image fils on it. However, when I put a dvd in, I just hear the spinning and clicking noises but nothing happens. The drive doesn't recognize the dvd. I would truly appreciate any help on this.

Thanks.

hi there,

go to device manager and update driver firmware

Thanks

It says the driver firmware id up to date. I wonder if the DVD laser is out of commission. I really hope not because then I would have to get a new DVD burner/player

I would try putting the dvds in another computers dvd-drive. if it is working correctly there, i would suggest buying a new dvd-drive. it's not that expensive (about 20€).
