Laptop to tv

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 series laptop and a Panasonic Plasma TV. I ordered a VGA out to HDMI in cable to connect. Now that I have them hooked up, I cannot move the computer screen to the tv. I tried Function F5 on computer which is for LCD Out, but that doesn’t work. Can someone help?

yes...I have the TV on the HDMI input, but I can't get the computer to feed in

Did you also change the video source to the correct HDMI port on the TV?
