How to use my Verbatim micro SDHC adapter

Hello,
I have a Verbaim micro SDHC Adapter for my 8GB memory card that I used for my phone. I could store things on it with my phone like it the passed me files I passed a photo from my phone i saved it onto the memory card. But when it got to the moment that i wanted to pass them onto the computer because i do not have a usb cable that connects my phone to the computer I bought a MR Platinium 8-in-1 Card Reader. It accesses into different memory cards except this specific one. The same happens to my boyfriends netway 2.0 card reader. But when my boyfriend connects his phone into the computer with a usb cable and puts my memory card into his phone it does work.

Can I get it to work in my computer without having to use his phone?
