Itunes to Laptop.....

Hello,
I need help about my Ipod, I have 1000's songs in it, but right now I have installed the new Itunes 9 on my laptop, but the problem is that I cant transfer my songs from my Ipod to Laptop, But if I transfer my songs from Laptop all my songs in Ipod will dissaper...just gone....I will be said...I need help. What can I do for perevent this...I love my SONGS????????? I use Windows Vista....Please Help sooooon....Thank you
