precise information under which running application did she press F4. This will be

im not sure which application she was running but she said she was trying to adjust the brightness and held the f4 key down, now when you turn it on it comes up with the toolbar at the bottom of thr screen where it tells you if your online and your battery strength etc and it has the home symbol in the lefthandside corner, but other than that the screen is black, nothing happens when i click on the home symbol but i did get the task manager up, if this helps any i just dont know what to do?????
