Hello,

I have n hp pavilion laptop with an externial monitor connected - how do I turn off the laptop's built in monitor so I can close the lapyop with out it powering down? Thanks

Use the Function (FN) key + F4 If memory serves for HP laptops (if it is not the F4 button, look on your keyboard keys for the one with a small square that looks like a monitor that has the same face color as the FN key) to cycle the internal / external monitors. Cycle should be Internal Display only, Internal Display and External Display, External Display only.

start > control panel >power options > advanced tab >

There's a section called "Power Buttons" and a line that reads "when i close the lid of my portable computer" change that to "do nothing". Hope that solves it for you!

Thanks for the advise on switching the monitors - that is fixed byt the laptop still powers down when I close the top even though its moniyor is turned off - how do NOY power DOWN the laptop when I close the cover? Thanks again
