Your HP laptop uses an advanced SATA controller - the Windows XP CD does NOT have software for for the controller. Google "slipstream" for information about adding the driver to the Windows CD. You will also be missing drivers for the other hardware ( like sound and network hardware). HP does not supply XP drivers for your laptop. I suggest you reinstall VISTA or get Windows 7.
