Did you set up Homegroup for networking in Windows 7?
Homegroup only works with Windows 7 computers and will not talk to your XP computer.
If so, you will need to change the networking system to one that XP can use.
On your Windows 7 computer:
* Click the Start button at the bottom left of the screen,
* Then go to the Control Panel and choose Network and Sharing Center.
* Click the link under "view your active networks" (if you've set up a Homegroup, the link should say "home network").
* In the next window choose "Work network" that will switch you from a Homegroup to a workgroup so your two computers can talk to each other.
Before you can network the computers, you must assign the same workgroup name to both of them and SHARE folders in Explorer.

I have one W7 and 3 XP's computers.
W7 cannot see the XP's.
The XP's can see the W7 but access is denied.
I have the same Workgroup name all all 4 computers
And the network is set as a Work Network.
If I go to Windows Expllorer in the W7 to share a folder, the choices are Everyone or Specific Name. I set it to everyone but still the XP computers can not access the W7
When I bought the W7 it connected to the network right away without doing nothing. I transferred files from the shared folders in the XPs But I don'that I did and now can not even see the other computers. I just remember that I installed Norton and at some point I set the W7 to Home Network but I changed to Work Network.
Can anybody have at least a hint to follow?

Thanks for the advice. Q: when you say "SHARE files in Explorer," do you mean internet explorer or explore in the state menu?
I tried to share files in the start menu in xp so my w7 machine could get them--I've got both as workgroup and both with the same name--but I was told: error Server service not setup.
Also, if I go through System to Computer Name and try to change the workgroup name it, I'm told I must install networking. I found a backdoor to change it anyway, but . . .
do you know how to start the server service and install networking? My wired xp LAN connection is fine as is my wireless w7 connection, the computers just can't see each other!
Thanks.
