cant connect 2 computers with an ethernet rouClosed

Hello,
i have cable internet and 2 laptops at home, i want to be able to access the internet with both of them but am unable to. 1 computer is running windows 7 and the other has vista, also is it possible i have a crappy old switch? i dont think so because it worked before. i can only get online with 1 computer or the other.
