Hi there,
Possible reasons:
-plugged in wrong port,
-driver has been removed,
-volume has been lowered/muted.
Remove and plug the jack in correct port,check for the driver in devc manage abd if missing reinstall it,or go to control panel,sound & hardware>open mixer and unmute or raise levels.
