Connecting laptop to tv

Hello,


i am trying to connect a advent laptop to a hdtv samsung using a vvga casble but when there both connected and i change tv to pc mode the tv turns itself off after 2 seconds! what am i doing wrong and how do i fix it? thanks jenna
