Hello,

I have a Dell Latutude D505 I am hoping to get some help with.
The hard drive has been running well for about a year with some known bad sectors.
I plugged in an s-video cable to a TV(other times done successfully) and when I pressed a button on the tv remote the Latitude screen went black (with an auditory 'crackle') and a fan turned on. Subsequently the laptop would not boot at all or would boot into XP and after a few minutes the screen would again go black and (I think) the OS would shut off (not sure). For the past 2 days I have been able to get the laptop to work (as if it is OK) by F12 and running diagnostics. Is there a way to test if something beyond the hard drive is damaged? Thank you!

Try F12 at the boot and run the Dell diagnostics. Most Dell's have this built in.
xpcman, I can get the computer to run (past 2 days) by running diagnostics (F12) but would like to determine if I have a hardware problem in addition to the hard drive. do you know of specific tests other than running the Dell diagnostics?

Did you run all the Dell tests?
I ran a few hours of tests, custom, all that I thought were related.
