Acer laptop screen trouble

Hello,
i have an acer laptop and there is a 3 inch black part appeared on the left hand side of the screen. If I hook it up to another moniter it works fine, can anyone advise me please

Dear Julie,

Please get to the monitor settings and adjust its horizontal and vertical position. This will allow you to fix up the problem but in the case you see that the matter is not solved, it will mean that the monitor is faulty and will have to get it replaced.

I have reset it to factory setting and reinstalled my drivers and nothing has happened. Im not too sure how to get to the monitor settings as im not brilliant with computers. Its been starting up a bit odly for a while, sometimes it starts up with the black band down the side and when I restart it, its ok but now its like that all the time. I put it on another monitor and it was normal size screen, if you think its the setting can you please tell me in idiot terms how to adjust them. Thanks in advance x
