Cant access start menu

Hello,

im currently having some problems with my laptop everytime windows will tell me that it needs to close explorer.exe and then i cant access the start menu list can anyone help me please?

have you recently installed any programmes?
check by looking in add/remove programmes, and sort by most recent.

Please list.
