Desktop disappeared

hey..i installed IE8 on my comp and restarted it..but after that my desktop disappeared..
I tried running explorer & explorer.exe thru task manager but nthin is happening..a pop up appears saying windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. .
How do i get my desktop back?? plz help

try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del to open task manager, press File -> New Task(Run..) and in the field type "explorer" without quotes and press OK

i tried doing that bt still nthin is happening..
