SD memory card cannot be read

I recently took pictures at a dance recital for my girls. My son was looking at the photos on my camera and all of the sudden the camera said it cannot read the memory card. I tried the memory card in my computer and it didn't read it either. I hope that there is something I can do. These photos are very important to me. It is a 1BG memeory card and has alot of important photos.
