Can connect to server but not to internet

I have a Toshiba that runs Window Vista. On some , I have no problems connecting, but others will show excellent connection to the , but the connection to the internet has a big red X. My daughter has an identical computer and has no problem. I do have a run dll error, which I also am unable to get rid of. Could they be related? I can always connect when I'm wired in.
