Lost sound after reinstalling windows xp

i had to reinstall windows xp pro for my home computer. It is an athlon xp. after finishing the installation of service packs two and three, i found that i have no sounds from the system speekers. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. It used to work before the reinstallation, but not now. please help me,,,, nwatne67@gmail.com.
