It seems this happens all the time. When you connect the external portable drive or memory card to the computer. Sometimes the computer will pop out a message signing the drive have to formatted. More oddly it will say access denied or the drive write protected. Usually this is due to reasons like drive corruption or your drive is not compatible with the FAT system in the computer you are using.
I find a similar post in this forum, you may get help from it.

Hi there,
Data in it are already corrupted for which it needs to be formatted,but after formatting you can recover the files by using recovery softwares,have recover my files software for download on following link:
